This program provides an applied education in the skills involved in Chinese-English translation and interpreting for students wishing to enter a professional career in these services. Students enrolling in this program are required to have third year-level proficiency in Chinese.
Students must complete the two core courses CHIN5900 and CHIN5901 and two electives to qualify for the Graduate Certificate (program 7325, plan code CHINDS7325).

Professional Translator and Interpreter in Chinese (Mandarin)
From 2009 the Master of Arts by coursework in Interpreting and Translating Studies combined with the Graduate Certificate in Chinese-English Translation have been accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) at the level of Professional Translator (both directions) in Chinese and Professional Interpreter in Mandarin. Students who wish to apply for NAATI accreditation at the level of Professional Translator and Professional Interpreter in Chinese must successfully complete the following ten core courses and two elective courses (total 72 UOC). In addition students must successfully complete 75 hours of practicum and achieve 70% in the special NAATI accreditation examination: Compulsory courses

Professional Translator in Chinese
From 2009 the Master of arts by coursework in Chinese-English Translation (CHINDS8225) has been accredited by NAATI at the level of Professional Translator in Chinese. Please see the link to the MA in Chinese English Translation for more information. The course structure for NAATI students will be reviewed and may change in line with NAATI requirements.
