Plan Outline

The International Finance specialisation is designed for students interested in the factors affecting exchange rates, the workings of international financial markets and the issues involved in global financial management of a firm. It provides a solid background for students wishing to work as managers and other decision makers in both financial and non-financial corporations.

This specialisation deals with the financial management of business corporations with international financial flows. It provides both a theoretical and practical framework with which the key financial decisions of the multinational corporations can be analysed. The emphasis throughout this program is on taking advantage of being multinational in the Asia-Pacific region.

Plan Structure

In order to qualify for the International Finance specialisation, students must complete:

4 core courses
2 disciplinary core courses:
and 2 disciplinary courses:
and 2 disciplinary courses selected from the following list:
and 2 elective courses selected from MCom offerings.

For those students who wish to extend their MCom (International Finance) specialisation, it is recommended that the electives be taken from the following:
Note: Students who commenced prior to 2007 can complete COMM5004 instead of COMM5005.

Professional Accreditation

The Securities Institute of Australia
The Securities Institute of Australia grants exemptions from certain courses leading to associate membership of the Institute to graduates who have completed finance courses offered in the BCom, BEc or MCom degree programs. Applications for registration, exemption or admission should be made direct to the Institute: www.securities.edu.au

The Australian Institute of Banking and Finance (AIBF)
The educational requirements for Associateship will be satisfied on the completion of a University degree specialising in Banking and Finance which includes a management, a marketing and four banking and finance courses. The educational requirements for Senior Associateship will be satisfied on the completion of a University degree specialising in Banking and Finance which includes a management, a marketing and four banking and finance courses and employment in the Australia/ NZ banking and finance industry for at least two years . Graduates who have met the academic, but not work experience requirements for Senior Associates, qualify for Associate membership.
