Description
This course provides an overview of the management of aged programs and services
across the public and private, acute, community and residential settings. The course
consists of five key components. The first two components briefly set the context
for the management of aged care programs and services. The course begins with an
examination of the demography of ageing in both developed and developing countries,
and the impact of ageing on disease profiles in countries like Australia, and then
considers the historical, social and medical perspectives of ageing and their implications
for aged care services. The third component examines the principles underpinning aged
care and the models, policy, regulatory and funding frameworks within which health
care is provided. In the final two components the course will consider the co-ordination and the
quality and safety of aged care including aspects such as inter-sectoral coordination,
the work of interprofessional teams and evaluation of services. The course will build on
participants’ current workplace experience and assist them in critically analysing current
theories and applying them in practice.
