Description

An introduction to Medieval and Renaissance music in its social, historical and cultural contexts.


Learning Outcomes

  • Familiarity with some of the most representative works of the Medieval and Renaissance periods
  • Ability to comment on their significance and stylistic features
  • Understanding of historical performance practice issues
  • Be able to contextualise music in its society in the Medieval and Renaissance periods in Europe
  • Acquisition of analytical skills and approaches for discussing music of these periods in a meaningful way.
