Development Studies

Description

Development Studies at UNSW is making a global impact on development policy and practice; our research and teaching generates ideas and mechanisms to promote solutions. As a student you will focus on life in developing countries, development processes and practices, and the relationships between developed and developing countries in the contemporary world. Development Studies is informed disciplines including Social Work, International Relations, Economics and Public Health.

What you will study

As a student of Development Studies you will first discuss the meaning of development, examine different theoretical approaches, trace the history of development as a practice, and consider contemporary issues in development. You will also be introduced to the major development strategies pursued by developing nation states giving you the knowledge and analytical skills needed to undertake further advanced studies in areas such as international organisation, the political economy of development, and sustainable development.
