Film Studies

Description

As a student of Film Studies you will be immersed in the study of the historical, theoretical and cross-cultural aspects of film and you will also have the opportunity to gain practical skills in video production and screenwriting. Film Studies at UNSW is one of the most comprehensive and rigorous Film major programs in Australia. As you learn you will draw on the expertise of our nationally recognised scholars including film theorists, film historians, and practitioners who are committed to pursuing innovative research in the field.

What you will study

Your courses will include a mix of academic studies in film where you will learn skills in film analysis and criticism, and study a range of film genres, and theories. Your studies will take you from the history of Hollywood to a range of Western and non-Western film industries and cultures and provide you with a rich understanding of the dynamics of the film medium, past, present and future. Our creative production courses in digital video and screenwriting will help you develop a portfolio to showcase your skills to potential employers.

You will also gain access to a range of resources including state-of-the-art multimedia labs, a lively film society, affiliations with film and media organisations, student film and video production groups, and a dynamic research culture.
