Paediatrics is an area of specialisation within medicine which deals with the development, health and diseases of children. In addition to investigating the treatment and prevention of disease, it focuses upon normal growth, child development and the behavioural aspects of children’s health.

Studying Paediatrics at UNSW

Paediatrics is primarily a postgraduate area of specialisation in medicine, although undergraduate medical students undergo a nine week paediatric rotation during Year 5 of the medicine program at UNSW. A Graduate Diploma in Paediatrics is open to doctors who have a hospital training position at Sydney Children’s Hospital or who have a similar paediatric job in NSW. A number of paediatric subjects (courses) are also offered in the Master of Public Health program.
