Music

Description

The study of Music at UNSW enables students to develop their musicianship and musical skills for professional work in areas as diverse as performing, private teaching, broadcasting, recording, arts administration, concert planning, music and general arts journalism, arranging and composing.

Students undertake core studies in musicology, musicianship, performance, composition, music history, style, criticism, musical perception and analysis, music in its cultural and social contexts, as well as studies in musical technology, and jazz studies. At the same time, students have enough flexibility in their program to enable them to combine music studies with substantial work in a related discipline such as creative writing, dance, theatre, film, English literature, languages, history, philosophy, and media studies.

Students may also undertake study in Education concurrently to enable them to secure a professional teaching qualification, in addition to developing their competence in music.
