 European Studies

Description

European Studies addresses basic issues and problems in the study of European culture and society, seen from the perspective of current attempts to establish a new role for a united Europe. The study of Europe is not a 'cultural cringe'; it is an essential part of defining Australia's role as a predominantly "European" country located in the Asia-Pacific. Any attempt to define Australian identity must be based not only on a new relationship with our neighbours, but on a critical understanding of our European heritage and the continuing dialogue with European thought and practice.
