Policy Studies | |||||||||||
Policy Studies is an area of knowledge that examines the definition and making of policy, the social and political processes involved in policy making, the practical implementation of policy, and the analysis of policy in terms of goals and consequences. Students are provided with a basic understanding of the concepts and tools of policy analysis. Through case studies of particular policy areas, they gain knowledge of the importance of policy contexts.
Students learn skills in policy analysis, research skills, and both oral and written communication skills through the preparation of reports, submissions, position papers and proposals. They also gain knowledge in specific policy areas such as development policy, social policy, and criminal justice policy through their choice of electives. Studying Policy Studies at UNSW Policy Studies is offered as a major in the Bachelor of Arts degree and combined degree programs based in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Law and the Australian School of Business. It is also offered at a postgraduate level through PhD and Masters degree programs.
