Description Media Arts is the study of various technologically based media. Students are prepared for careers in photography, film and video, sound design, multimedia and Internet based technologies.
At UNSW, the study of this discipline is through the College of Fine Arts (COFA) at Paddington. There are three major areas of study: digital media, photomedia and time-based art. Digital Media, as an area of study, may involve the study of digital video technologies, 3D graphics and modelling, digital imaging, sound and various aspects of audio production, interactive media and animation. Photomedia is concerned with the issues of analogue and digital image production within the context of national and international contemporary visual arts practice and debate central to the development and production of artwork. Emphasis is placed on conceptual and practical investigations through specific projects designed to promote the acquisition of technical skills and foster critical individual interpretations in addition to conceptual and aesthetic development. Time Based Art is an interdisciplinary area embracing the development of experimental and critically conceived work in experimental film, video art, performance, experimental animation, screen based and interactive installation, interactive media and sound art. This study area is a leading area for the development of video art and experimental film at a university level in Australia. Studying Media Arts at UNSW The study of Media Arts at UNSW is primarily through the School of Media Arts at the College of Fine Arts (www.cofa.unsw.edu.au) in Paddington.
