Description The study of Social Science and Policy is focussed on providing students with skills in undertaking social research particularly in an applied policy setting. These include written communication skills with particular emphasis on reports, submissions, position papers and proposals; the ability to undertake research and data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative; analysis and critical evaluation of research, arguments and policies; and the use of computers in social research and information processing.
Special emphasis is placed on familiarising students with the ways in which social science is put into practice by using case studies drawn from current projects being undertaken or commissioned by government and non government organisations. Studying Social Science and Policy at UNSW Social Science and Policy is offered in the Bachelor of Social Science degree program and combined degree programs based in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science, The Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Commerce and Economics. It is also offered at a postgraduate level through PhD and Masters degree programs.
