Program Description

The Nura Gili Indigenous Preparatory Program (Pre-Program) is a four-week residential program for entry to Business, Law, Medicine and Social Work for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is a program designed for Indigenous students who do not satisfy the minimum entry requirements for admission to university studies. The course has been designed to assess your academic potential and to provide a realistic environment within which you can develop the knowledge and skills to manage your undergraduate studies effectively. On successful completion of the program students may be offered a place at UNSW in an enabling program or undergraduate degree.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

At the end of the program, students should have acquired all of the following graduate attributes:
  1. Able to apply their knowledge and skills to solving problems:

    1.b Able to structure a solution using supporting evidence
  2. Capable of effective communication:
    2.a Able to respond to academic tasks in written and spoken forms
    2.b Able to participate actively and respectfully in group and class discussions
  3. Capable of independent and collaborative enquiry:
    3.a Able to recognise and read academic discourses
    3.b Able to recognise an academic argument
    3.c Able to read and examine evidence in an academic argument
  4. Information and digitally literate:
    4.a Able to use and source digital libraries, repositories and archives
    4.b Able to review and use scholarly information
  5. Capable of independent and self-directed practice:
    5.a Aware of importance of time-management and planning skills
    5.b Able to constructively reflect and improve positions or approaches in subsequent learning engagements
    5.c Awareness of academic assistance available at the university

Program Structure

Students complete one of the following courses:
  • ATSI7004 - NGIPP Social Work (12UOC) (TBC)

Academic Rules

  1. Students must complete a total of 12 UOC.
  2. Students must complete their program within one semester of study.

Note: Student enrolments will be Commonwealth-funded and students will not have to pay Commonwealth Support charges.
