The Diploma in Innovation Management (3451) is a unique interdisciplinary undergraduate program administered through the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) in the School of Strategy and Entrepreneurship. The program aims to encourage an entrepreneurial mind-set and provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for developing business opportunities and commercial innovation.
Course material covers areas such as creativity in enterprises, business principles, business planning for new ventures, funding, management and commercialisation of intellectual property, and valuation and assessment of innovative businesses. Students engage in exercises to set up and run their own new ventures and participate in case studies with Australian and international entrepreneurs. The lectures, workshops, case studies and tutorials in each of the program's courses are delivered by a well-balanced mixture of university academics and expert industry and government professionals. Undergraduate Students This program is open to UNSW undergraduate students of all faculties who have completed 36 UOC and have a minimum 65 WAM or higher if required by the student’s home faculty. Students are assessed for admission based on their past leadership and entrepreneurial activities, enthusiasm and academic achievement. Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes The Diploma in Innovation Management is designed to provide an entrepreneurial education that will allow students to recognise, evaluate, finance and exploit innovative commercial opportunities. Graduates are more competitive for all employment opportunities regardless of industry, and will have a wider range of career options. Combinations of business and innovation skills are required in careers that involve intellectual property, high technology finance, venture capital and investment, R&D and innovation management, government regulation and administration, and sales and marketing.
The Diploma is taught concurrently over the student's final 3 years of study and involves 36 units of credit (UOC). Upon completion of core and elective courses, students become eligible for the award of the Diploma in Innovation Management. To complete the Diploma, students must select two elective courses in consultation with the CIE that fit the mandate of innovation management. In the final year, students are required to complete one of the business planning courses offered. Upon completion of the core and elective courses, students become eligible for the award of the Diploma in Innovation Management.

For the award of the Diploma in Innovation Management, students must complete all core courses in the study plan as well as 12 UOC of electives approved by the CIE.
