Stream Outline

THIS STREAM IS FOR STUDENTS COMMENCING FROM 2016.

Sociology and Anthropology will appeal to you if you are interested in the social and cultural relations through which we live. If you are doing a major in the humanities,Sociology and Anthropology as an extended minor will give you an invaluable social and cross-cultural perspective. If you are majoring in a specialist social science, most of which grew from Sociology and Anthropology, an extended minor in Sociology and Anthropology will give greater depth and cross-cultural breadth. If you are majoring in a discipline that is concerned with social and cultural trends, an extended minor in Sociology and Anthropology will improve your analytical skills, your conceptual understanding and your appreciation of ethical relations.

Stream Learning Outcomes

You should achieve the following learning outcomes upon the successful completion of the stream:
  • Identify key concepts and theoretical approaches within and between the disciplines of Sociology and Anthropology
  • Recognise the significance of appropriate research strategies and methods in the construction of sociological and anthropological knowledge
  • Recognise the particularity of different times, places, cultures and people, and the connectedness of all forms of life

Stream Structure

If you wish to gain an extended minor stream in Sociology and Anthropology you must complete 36 units of credit including 18 UOC of core courses at Level 1, the 6 UOC core course at Level 2, and 12 UOC at Level 3.
