Stream Outline

THIS STREAM IS FOR STUDENTS COMMENCING FROM 2016.

The Music Studies (Intensive) major examines music as a manifestation of culture and society, as an intellectual product and as a specific reflection of experience. Musicological methodologies are central to the disciplinary study of music. Music Studies (Intensive) enables you to develop your musicianship, musical skills and contextual understanding of music in preparation for professional work in music areas as diverse as performance and composition, broadcasting, recording, arts administration and advocacy, concert planning, music and general arts journalism, and music teaching.

Stream Learning Outcomes

You should achieve the following learning outcomes upon the successful completion of the stream:
  • Explain the relationship between various musics and their historical, social , cultural and technological contexts
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the materials, structures and processes of music
  • Engage with music technology
  • Demonstrate executant musical skill through individual and/or ensemble performance

Stream Structure

The major stream in Music Studies (Intensive) is for students with a background in formal music training.

If you wish to gain a major stream in Music Studies (Intensive) you must complete 60 units of credit including 12 UOC of core courses at Level 1, 18 UOC of core courses at Level 2, and 30 UOC at Level 3 including 18 UOC of Level 3 core courses.
