Stream Outline

The minor in Art History and Theory allows students in the BA to study the history and theory of contemporary art and design.

Taught in the context of practice, the minor provides courses that address art history, cultural theory, art and the body, the intersections of art, society and politics, writing on art and design, and contemporary practice, including film, sound, photography and interactivity.

Students majoring in a humanities, film, or media, and those interested in contemporary art and design, and the way it impacts on our lives, will find real value in the minor in Art History and Theory.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Art History and Theory stream, you will be able to:
  • critically engage with contemporary art and design
  • develop an understanding of the conceptual and practical contexts for contemporary art and design investigate and articulate contemporary art and design

Stream Structure

If you wish to gain a minor stream in Art History and Theory you must complete 24 units of credit, including 6 UOC at level 1, at least 6 UOC at levels two or three.
