Stream Outline
The Legal Studies Extended Minor Stream is an interdisciplinary stream, with courses included from Criminology, Politics, Philosophy and Law. If you are studying in the BABEd program, this stream qualifies you to teach Legal Studies in addition to another area of qualification, thus increasing your chances for employment in NSW secondary schools.
The Legal Studies Extended Minor Stream aims to develop critically aware graduates with a qualification to teach the course.
The learning outcomes for this stream align with the requirements of the NSW Institute of Teachers.
At the successful conclusion of this stream, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate broad and critical knowledge and understanding of the academic discipline of legal studies, including recent theory and practice
- Evaluate the nature, functions, systems, processes and institutions of domestic and international law
- Explain the operation and dimensions of national (e.g. Australian) and international legal systems
- Analyse how changes in societies influence change and reform in law
- Apply skills of legal investigation and research
