The Materials Engineering stream provides a versatile, comprehensive coverage of areas involving:
the conception and application of properties of materials for use in engineering, structural and specialty needs necessary in the design and development of specific components
supervision of manufacturing
evaluation and certification of specifications and characteristics
production of new, novel and value-added products
research
general engineering and project management

Stream Structure

The range of Professional Electives and selection of Technical Electives in years 3 and 4 provide a direction appropriate to the needs of the Australian Industry, and to the specific interests of students, together with a degree of flexibility if required. Typical fields which may be encompassed by the stream include steel and non-ferrous metals/alloys production, polymers and composites industry, building materials, civil engineering applications, transport, electrical/electronic industry, biomaterials/biodevices, Australian defence needs: Army, Navy, Airforce, plus the national research laboratories. Due emphasis is placed on collaborating with other appropriate fields of engineering and science disciplines.
