Stream Outline

Today's labour markets place more and more emphasis on the knowledge and skills acquired in higher education and an Honours degree is a sure way to distinguish yourself from other job applicants. Many employers and post-graduate institutions will only consider applicants who have a strong Honours degree. This is especially true for jobs and post-graduate places in Business Economics. A successful Honours year is a sure way to distinguish yourself from other job applicants. Graduates with an Honours degree from the School of Economics at UNSW have moved on to successful careers in both the public and private sectors and academia.

The Honours degree in Business Economics is targeted to those students with the equivalent of a BEc or BCom pass degree in Business Economics. To satisfy the Honours requirements, students undertake an additional year of study, completing Honours level courses (both compulsory and elective) and undertaking a research thesis. Students must have completed the prerequisite courses prior to their Honours year.

Entry Requirements

To be admitted into Honours in the School of Economics, a candidate must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor of Economics or a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics (required courses are Microeconomics 2, Macroeconomics 2 and Introductory Econometrics), with an overall Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 70 out of 100.

Availability and willingness of a supervisor to work with the candidate is another important criterion for successful admission to the program.
