Plan Outline

This plan is only available to students commencing from 2011

The minor stream in Creative Writing develops students’ creative compositional capacities in the English language. It provides a survey of the history of forms of writing, and sustained practice in the rhetorics and poetics of composition. It is closely aligned with subject matter in the fields of English and Cultural Studies. It develops practical skills in writing in various genres, as well as in editing and in understanding the professional contexts in which communication through writing plays a central role.

The aims of the BA minor stream in Creative Writing are:
  • to practice creative writing and editing across various genres, including poetry, scriptwriting, fiction, and essays
  • to develop effective rhetorical capacities through reflection on the English language
  • to develop broad understandings of effective written communications and their professional contexts
  • to foster critical and creative engagement with literary and cultural theory through reasoned and open-minded debate
  • to consider the value of ethical and aesthetic responses to real-world problems
