Plan Outline

  • A major in Economics consists of 60 UOC (10 courses). Eight (8) of these courses are specified; the other two (2) are elective courses that are chosen from the list below. This is regardless of whether you are doing a single major or taking Economics as a second major
  • A minor consists of 30 UOC (5 courses) containing ECON1101, ECON1102 and 18 UOC at level 2 or 3. The minor does not form part of the nominated major.

Compulsory core courses

Compulsory major specific courses
Where a second economics major is taken and that major is Econometrics ECONE1, the course ECON3208 will count towards that major only, and an additional elective will be required to be taken.

Elective courses
Note that an elective can only count towards one major.

Honours

Honours level study is available for students completing the Economics major. The following courses are recommended as a good preparation for Honours:
  • One of ECON3101 Markets and Public Choice; or ECON3121; or ECON3123
  • ECON3104 International Macroeconomics
  • ECON3202 Mathematics Economics
Students interested in studying at Honours Level should refer to the relevant Honours plan record for entry requirement.
