Plan Outline

This plan introduces students to the biological and behavioural aspects of the nervous system, and is based around the neuroscience courses offered by the Departments of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology, and School of Psychology.

A Neuroscience Major within the Bachelor of Science (Advanced) program is comprised of 156 UOC of courses as listed below. Students need to ensure that all other program requirements are met as per the Bachelor of Science (Advanced) / Bachelor of Social Science program rules such that a total of 240 UOC is completed.

Plan Structure

Stage 1
Recommended Elective: BIOS1101 Evolutionary and Functional Biology (6 UOC)

Note: Before the commencement of Stage 2 students should consult with the appropriate school about the courses recommended for a particular Honours program (see staff in the Departments of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology in the School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine or in the School of Psychology, Faculty of Science).

1Students need to achieve a Credit or better in this course as a prerequisite for the compulsory Stage 3 ANAT3411 Neuroanatomy.
2 ANAT2111 has BIOS1101 Evolutionary and Functional Biology (6 UoC) as a pre-requisite.

Stage 4 (Honours)
Entry to Stage 4 (Honours) is subject to the general Rules for Advanced Science (3972).

Entry to Stage 4 (Honours) in Psychology requires completion of 78 UOC of Psychology Level I, II and III courses, and an average of 75% or higher in Psychology Level I, Level II and Level III courses. Students achieving an average of 70% or more may be admitted subject to appropriate research and supervision resources being available and at the discretion of the Head of School.
