Plan Outline

For a double major, 6 courses (36 UOC) must be completed in addition to completion of the BEc program Complusory Level 1 core courses and one Required Level 1 Finance course.

Plan Structure

  • Students must have completed the BEc Level 1 core course requirements. In addition, students must complete FINS1612 Capital Markets and Institutions and six (6) Level 2 (ECON2XXX) and Level 3 (ECON3XXX or FINS2XXX) courses from the Required and Elective course lists below. Students must complete three (3) Level 2 and three (3) Level 3 courses. All these ECON and FINS courses are worth 6 UOC each.

Required compulsory courses

Elective courses
  • Elective courses may be taken from the lists below of Level 2 and Level 3 courses, subject to at least one Level 2 and one Level 3 course being taken.
  • An additional elective course is required to be taken from the Elective course list where one of the Required courses counts towards another Major or Minor. This requirement does not apply to FINS1612 in the case where it counts towards another Major or Minor.

Honours

Honours level study is also available for students completing the Financial Economics major. The following courses, taken as part of the Major or as additional electives, are recommeded as a good preparation for Honours:
  • ECON2102 Macroeconomics 2
  • ECON3104 International Macroeconomics
  • ECON3202 Mathmatical Economics
  • One of ECON3101 Markets and Public Choice; or ECON3121; or ECON 3123
Students interested in Honours should refer to the Honours plan record for entry requirements.
