Australian Studies - AUSTA13400 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This plan only applies to students who commenced their degree program before 2009.
Australian Studies provides an interdisciplinary exploration of Australian culture and society. Its concerns are wide-ranging. Aboriginal issues, the environment, gender identity and politics, and the shaping of cultural icons and institutions are central to its themes. The Level 1 core course offers students an introduction to important issues and debates in Australian Studies. Upper Level courses are taught and administered through different schools in the Faculty and offer a range of interdisciplinary and disciplinary approaches. Courses may be studied individually and are all designed to be self-contained. They are available to all students within the Faculty and many from outside. As well as providing the basis for a major sequence, Australian Studies courses also form excellent extensions to majors in English, Geography, History, History and Philosophy of Science, Politics and International Relations, Sociology and Anthropology and Film and Theatre. Australian Studies may be taken as a major sequence. This requires the completion of 42 units of credit in Australian Studies approved courses (listed below). Students must complete the program's introductory core course at Level 1 (ARTS1190). The remaining units of credit may be selected either from other Upper Level offerings or from the B-list of Upper Level electives.
