This plan is for a minor in Linguistics.
Linguistics is the study of human language. Study in this discipline provides a basis for a variety of practical applications, including the teaching and learning of foreign languages, translating and interpreting, facilitating cross-cultural communication, diagnosing and treating language disorders, providing linguistic support for such professions as law and medicine, developing language curricula in schools, improving literacy skills, generating speech by computer, producing 'plain English' documents, and so on. All minors from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences require a total of 24 Upper Level units of credit from a particular School. No more than 12 units of credit of Level 1 courses may be taken.
