Plan Outline

This plan only applies to students who commenced their degree program before 2009.

This plan is for a Major in Chinese Studies.

The School of Languages and Linguistics offers a flexible program for students with different interests and different Chinese language backgrounds. Students can enter Chinese language courses at different levels, depending on their knowledge of Chinese characters. Within each year, students are allocated to different groups, depending on their speaking ability.

This plan is available to students commencing at Beginners' and Intermediate entry levels.

Plan Structure

In order to count Chinese Studies as a major sequence, students must complete 42 units of credit in Chinese language and Chinese Studies courses, including two Level 3 or two Level 4 (Professional Elective) courses.

Placement Information

Students who wish to enrol in a language course without completing the necessary prerequisites are required to complete an online placement application form before the commencement of the semester. Students will not be permitted to enrol in language courses that are too easy for them in terms of Chinese character knowledge. If this occurs, the School will request that that students change their enrolment.

Please refer to the School Website for further information.
