Plan Outline

For Combined Honours (Research), the requirement is normally 48 units of credit in Philosophy, consisting of 6 or 12 units of credit at Level 1 and the remainder at Upper Level, including at least 12 units of credit in courses numbered PHIL3000 and above. Students must also normally have a grade average of at least 70 per cent in their Philosophy courses, including at least one Distinction result.

The School recognises that the particular overall programs of some students enrolling in Combined Honours might be such as to make it desirable to vary the Philosophy course requirements for admission - either in terms of the prescribed number of units of credit or in terms of the requirement that 12 units of credit be chosen from the specified range of courses. Students are invited to consult the School about this matter in their particular situations.

Subject to the approval of the School, which considers the individual courses nominated by a student and the student's overall program in Philosophy, a student may be permitted to count up to 6 units of credit offered outside the School toward satisfying the Honours entry requirements.

Students contemplating Honours are urged to seek advice from the School early in their program.
