Plan Outline

This Study Plan is for a Major in Medical Chemistry.

This program of study combines a strong knowledge of synthetic and analytical chemistry and aspects of biochemistry or pharmacology. It is designed to produce graduates whose background in both chemical and biological areas is appropriate to the requirements of employers in Australia.

Note: Students without the assumed knowledge for these courses may substitute CHEM1011 and CHEM1021

  • Elective courses totalling 6 UOC

Stage 2
Note: CHEM2829 may be substituted for CHEM2031

PLUS one course from:
PLUS further specialisation in either Physiology/Pharmacology or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology by choosing:

One of the following:
AND elective courses totalling 6 UOC

OR

The following two courses:

Stage 3
Further specialisation in either Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, as follows:

12 UOC from Level III Physiology or Level III Pharmacology according to choice of Level II prerequisites

OR

Courses totalling 12 UOC from Level III Biochemistry and
PLUS
  • General Education (6 UOC)
  • Elective courses totalling 18 UOC

Stage 4
Note: Joint supervision of Honours projects between the School of Chemistry and either the Department of Physiology & Pharmacology or the School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences (BABS) is strongly encouraged.
