Description

SDES1001 Design Gateway 1: Design Dialogues introduces students to contemporary design as an integrated practice, which involves creative understanding and practical engagement with design elements, principles, contexts, experimentation and research. The course covers 2, 3 and 4 dimensional aspects of design including processes of design thinking, design practice, design research, design development, and ways of communicating and presenting design ideas thorough specific projects. Students will analyse the work of selected designers and fabricate design prototypes. A practical focus on drawing and design construction incorporates a wide range of design concepts including useability, durability and functionality discussed in relation to issues of ethical practice, sustainability and cultural relevance.

This course will assist students in selecting studio areas for further study. SDES1001 and SDES1002 are complementary courses and may be completed in any order.
