Description
Subject Area: Linguistics
This course takes the descriptive approach of contemporary linguistics while retaining the familiar terms and categories of traditional grammar whenever possible. Where relevant, we will place the study of grammar within its historical context, and at every stage will apply the study of grammar to texts of various kinds, including some literary ones. Issues of 'good' and 'bad' usage and application of grammatical anaysis to the development of students' own writing will also be touched upon.
