Description

The course introduces students to procurement methods and the practice of construction contract management. Students will learn about: (a) different options for project delivery and the options for contract price; (b) the common matters covered in the general conditions of a major construction contract, including (but not limited to) practical completion, extension of time, liquidated damages, latent conditions, delay costs, bonus and variation clauses; (c) the relevance of legal concepts, including unjust enrichment, frustration, waiver, estoppel, and specific performance to contract administration; (d) alternative dispute resolution methods; and (e) the purpose and application of security of payment legislation for the construction industry. The course is closely linked with other management and law courses in the BCMP program. The course content is highly relevant to the achievement of the overall program’s objectives by: developing students’ knowledge of the important issues of contract administration and management; and relating the study material to practical applications.
