Description

This course introduces students to theories and practical knowledge in ecological and bioclimatic design. It includes: fundamental ecological literacy, systematic thinking of life-cycle in architectural design, a history of ecological and bioclimatic concepts in architecture, application of theories in developing a relational view of people and nature as mediated by architecture, and the use of industrial and natural life-support systems to achieve symbiosis and resilience. Building on this knowledge and theoretical foundation, students will master the basic techniques to enhance human comfort through climate-sensitive design, and gain the ability to analyse the site-specific climatic and geomorphological context to optimize building design for sun, temperature, wind and human metabolism and perception.
