Description
Subject Area: Social Work
This course builds on the theoretical and skills based learning that are developed in SOCW3011 Level 3 Placement. As per the Level 3 Placement, this course links you with a qualified social worker in a human services agency offering practice based learning, in accordance with the AASW Practice Standards. This learning experience is supported by social work supervision, occurring in a social work context different to that of the Level 3 Placement. It is expected that you will engage with principles of theory-practice integration, critical social work and critical reflection at a deeper level. By the end of this course you will be eligible for membership of the AASW and you will have a clear sense of your professional practice framework. Placement allocation is again undertaken in consultation with you, to prioritise your learning goals and individual career goals, whilst complementing the Level 3 Placement experience. Level 4 placements occur in diverse contexts of practice such as hospitals, state and federal government departments, and non-government community based organisations. Social work interventions may include policy, research, counselling, case work and community work. You will develop general social work skills, transferable to all social work contexts. The placement comprises 70 attendance days (490 hours) and is generally undertaken four days per week throughout Semester 2, alongside classroom based subjects. The placement is accompanied by a series of Integration Seminars that support and complement your field based learning, with an emphasis on preparation for the workforce.
