Description

In this course you will explore the roles of spatiality, temporality and site in relation to representation in contemporary painting. Historically, painting has been an innovative medium through which to reconfigure spatial and temporal awareness. You will explore painting in relation to contemporary contexts of mapping, motion and location. Questions as to how contemporary painting responds to your experiences of space, time and place in the contexts of high-speed mobility, global networks, omnipresent surveillance, Google, GPS, virtual reality, will provide you with inspiration for different bodies of work.

The knowledge acquired in this studio course can be applied across a range of related BFA (Hons) and BMA (Hons) courses. This course complements the Year 2 Painting courses SART2400 Painting: Materiality and Construction, SART2401 Painting and Technology and SART2402 Painting and the Body and prepares students for more advanced studies in the Year 3 level.
