Description

Dimensional analysis applied to problems in naval architecture. Conservation of mass, Bernoulli equation, momentum principle. Stream function and potential function. Body generation with a distribution of sources and thin-body approximation. Complex potential, velocity and pressure. Airfoils and hydrofoils.
Plane progressive waves in both deep water and water of finite depth. Rolling and heaving of a ship in calm water. Small angles of roll and nonlinear rolling. Rolling in waves. Heave motion of a spar buoy in waves. Coupled pitching and heaving of a ship in forward motion. Ocean waves and their properties.
