Subject Area: Media
Political Public Relations explores major aspects of political communication from the perspectives of both the academic and practitioner. Students learn from cases and expertise in the areas of government communication, public affairs and election campaigns. They will acquire knowledge about contemporary issues and trends, including political communication and advertising; political campaigns organisation, planning and strategies; the use of critical events; image making and marketing strategies; campaign research as segmenting, targeting and positioning; and political advocacy, lobbying and activism. It also introduces students to the professional dimensions, standards and ethics of political consultancy, the demand of which has been on the rise. Careers range here from public information officers in government departments communication trough communication workers for nonprofit clubs, charities, advocacy groups and social services, to public relations practitioners in internal sections of larger business organisations or specialized (full-service) communication firms.
