Description

The learning in this design studio builds upon the knowledge and skills gained from prior design studios with an emphasis on developing competencies in designing products for mass-production and design presentation techniques. This studio-based course develops and deepens student’s knowledge about the construction, material choices and manufacturing considerations when designing products for mass production. It advances product illustration and rendering techniques to create persuasive and accurate design documentation. Design projects include the design resolution and detailing of appropriate forms and assemblies when designing in plastic and other associated materials for high volume manufacturing. Through a series of lectures and class activities on designing in plastic and product design communication, students will apply this knowledge to design projects of moderate complexity.

Design communication skills specifying form, details, assembly, fit and finish utilising a range of technical and illustration methods and documentation will be explored. The content covered within this course will enable you to understand and effectively communicate your design intent with other design and manufacturing specialists It will provide students a solid foundation for designing and communicating designs for production.
