Description
Subject Area: Development Studies
What is the future of international development? What are the main development challenges that lie ahead? Each year you will be able to explore significant global trends that are affecting the policy, principles and practices of international development. On the basis of different case studies you will be able to explore the historical origin of contemporary policy debates in light of the most recent evidence and practice and learn how to evaluate development outcomes. The course focus changes slightly every year in order to address the most pressing contemporary issues. This could include forced migration; the shifting geography of poverty; urbanization; the role of the private sector in development; sustainable development and the challenge to building inclusive states and societies. Through an examination of this issue, you will learn how to interpret and critically assess quantitative and qualitative data to understand the dynamics of the problem, and critically analyse policy responses, initiatives and action by different development actors. You will develop research and communication skills applicable that will equip you to work in the development sector.
