This is a course about Australian theatre, focusing on recent performance in an international context. It is based around the work of theatre companies in Sydney, and addresses current issues in theatre production, such as the repertoire of Australian plays, the development of new works, the adaptation of classics and innovations in form. You will examine trends in Australian playwriting, theatre practice and contemporary performance in relation to Indigenous cultures, national imaginaries and global flows. Learning activities are aligned with industry practice to prepare you for active participation in Australian theatre as a well-informed arts worker and spectator. This course is located within the Theatre and Performance Studies stream.
