Description

This is a semester long course for honours students in the School of Humanties and Languages, whose disciplines include Asian Studies, Environmental Humanities, European Studies, History, Language Studies, Linguistics, and Philosophy.

It combines a seminar component and a thesis workshop. The seminar component is designed to expose students to some of the leading issues, debates and ideas within their research discipline. For the seminar component students will be divided into streams, depending on their discipline. The seminars will be divided into modules, each led by a different member of the School of Humanities and Languages, so as to reflect the diversity of approaches within each discipline.

The thesis workshop is designed to prepare students for writing an honours thesis in one of the discipline areas of the School. Topics covered include: using the library for advanced research; developing, structuring and writing a thesis; using secondary sources; research methods; the role of your supervisor in designing and executing your thesis; planning and managing a research project; approaches to presenting thesis research.
