Description

Building on the experimental themes of your previous Cross-Media courses, you will develop a self-initiated project or series of experiments to explore questions of experience and engagement. We will investigate the artwork as an experiential process, focusing on what the artwork can do, rather than what it represents.

The intensive studio will operate as an environment for discursive, investigative workshops that accompany your self-driven process of developing a new work or a series of project studies. In these workshops you will study the anatomy of encounter, which situates your work in the wider social and cultural context. This will involve actively engaging in questions of context, exploring nonhuman agency through material capacities and experimenting with the capacity of a living body to affect and to be affected. We will look into media techniques and emerging technologies to explore the technology's potential to transform the aesthetic encounter, and rethink modes of presence, interactivity and participation as a way of inventing new forms of experience.
