Description

This course covers the principles and application of the major underground and surface mining methods, and the design of materials handling and transport systems and infrastructure required to support them.

Specific topics to be covered include:

Surface mining methods.
Underground mining methods.
Materials handling and transport systems.
Systems infrastructure and site requirements.

On completion of the course, the student should be capable of demonstrating an understanding of:

Major mining methods and related equipment and infrastructure relevant to different types of deposit.
The parameters for safe, efficient, economic and responsible mining.
Matching materials handling and transport requirements to the scale of operations.
Core risks in each mining method.
Direction of technological trends.

Note: Site visits and industry lectures are a requirement of this course and may involve additional personal expense.
