Description
technologies such as rapid·prototyping and laser cutting. In addition, students will undertake a series of inductions into the safe and competent operation of hand tools, power tools, stationary machinery,
surface finishing, and other equipment for the fabrication of industrial design models and prototypes. A series of assessable hands-on exercises enables familiarization with a wide variety of modelling materials including card, blue foam, composite wood, plastics, and metals. Students will be shown how
making models and mock-ups can be used as a tool for concept representation, experimentation, visualization and communication during the product design and development process. Furthermore,
techniques learned in this course would underpin subsequent industrial design studio projects in the production of idea mock-ups, realistic models, components, test rigs, working prototypes, and functional products. Successful completion of IDES1013 is a prerequisite to accessing the stationary machinery and power tools in the FBE Design Lab workshops.
