Description

This course provides an overview of the field of special education. It surveys major special education categories, major issues, and strategies to support students with special needs in inclusive educational settings. By the end of the course, students will have a broad overview of the field and its key concepts, issues, and the relevant Department of Education policies. They will be conversant with the main categories of disabilities, and have knowledge of evidence-based practices that can be used to assist these students in being successful in the inclusive classroom. One component of this course is 5 days of structured observation in a special education setting.
