Description
'Criminal Law and Justice 2' builds on the themes introduced in 'Criminal Law & Justice 1 (CRIM2020)'.
This course looks at selected crimes, their legal definition and the policy contexts in which they operate. CRIM 2021 considers further how legal definitions, criminal justice practice and competing policy priorities are interconnected. In particular, it emphasises the ways in which the law in relation to issues such as illicit drugs and assault are subject to change. This approach provides a foundation for more detailed subsequent study of the criminal process. Like CRIM 2020, CRIM 2021 introduces students to legal ways of thinking about and responding to crime, and to core concepts that can be developed and challenged in criminology electives such as 'Crime, Power and Human Rights (CRIM 2018)'.
The topics covered are: drugs, public order, homicide, defences, assault, sexual assault, dishonest acquisition and sentencing.
