Description

This is an honours level seminar course that will develop advanced insights into material in the History and Philosophy of Science and in Environmental Studies of specific relevance to students who are undertaking research for their honours theses. The material will be explored in depth and will involve using a variety of topics to explore the application of different conceptual frameworks. Topics will include: scientific and technological controversy; the history of science, technology and medicine; environmental politics; forms of 'knowledge'; and high profile contemporary technoscientific issues. The material chosen for study will be tailored to those topics which students have chosen for their thesis. Different modes and forms of conceptual analysis will be applied to these topics in order to illustrate and illuminate their relevant strengths and limitations.
