Description

Subject Area: Sociology and Anthropology

This capstone course gives students an opportunity to reflect upon the debates that have shaped sociological and anthropological inquiry. The course canvasses a range of perspectives and problems to show how the dynamism of the discipline is created through a diversity of approaches. Topics to be addressed may include debates (structure and agency; identity and difference; realism and constructionism), conflicts (socio-biology; positivism and post-positivism), perspectives (materialism, genealogy, ethnography, ethnomethdology), and controversies (modernism vs. post-modernism).
