Description This course covers two important areas of geotechnical engineering: geology and applied geotechnics. The geology section covers the earth and it’s formation, rock types; their behaviour and properties and subsurface mapping. The topics in the applied geotechnics include: theoretical and presumptive bearing capacity of shallow foundations, allowable settlement and foundations on sand and clay, lateral earth pressures, retaining wall design, single axially and laterally loaded piles and pile groups, excavation and dewatering.
