Subject Area: Media, Culture and Technology
How have media and culture become objects of government? How are media and cultural institutions implicated in the management and reform of populations? How have culture and policy come to be connected and how can this connection be understood? Using the work of key thinkers these questions will be explored with a particular emphasis on concepts of power, governmentality, discourse and individual and community responses to regimes of regulation. Case studies in media and cultural policy will be drawn from a wide spectrum, including the arts, broadcasting, museums and new media technologies.
